This webinar will be hosted by Rita Gautschy (DaSCH) and Alexandra Stam (FORS). It will address the challenges related to authorship, copyright, licensing, and responsible data sharing. Questions such as who owns digitized sources, annotations, or curated datasets, or which licenses to choose and how these choices affect future reuse will be covered.
This webinar introduces the key legal, ethical, and practical aspects of rights management in research data stewardship for the humanities and social sciences. Participants will gain an overview of copyright and database rights, questions of authorship and attribution in research environments, and the role of open licenses such as Creative Commons. The webinar will also address common challenges surrounding digitized cultural heritage materials, data publication, and the balance between openness and restrictions. Through use cases from humanities and social sciences, participants will see how licensing choices influence access, reuse, and long-term sustainability of research data. The webinar is aimed at anyone involved in creating, managing, or publishing research data and requires no prior knowledge.
